Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge: 2015 Week#21

Which Way Lanes and Arcades

Like many older cities Hobart has lots of narrow laneways and arcades. I like them. They are fun to explore and are often home to quirky little shops and cafes. Today I revisited Mathers Lane in Hobart. Mathers Lane branches off Bathurst Street next to the Playhouse Theatre. It’s a quiet little space which houses a Community Health Centre and a shop run by the Catholic Church. Another laneway leads off it to an adjacent street or you have the choice of going through to Liverpool Street via either a continuation of Mathers Lane or Mathers Arcade.

As they are just off the main shopping area they are not usually crowded. It is a bit of a shock to come out on Liverpool Street where there is lots of construction going on at the moment. Here are some highlights of my little walk.

  1. That looks cool, I would like to roam around there. I like these arcades too if they are not too crowded. We have a lot of construction going on in our city too right now, it looks bad and I hope they finish the work soon. It’s dramatic in our city because I’d say most tourist would come here because of the old architecture and so, but at the moment a lot of them are under refurbishment. On the other side, things need to be kept intact of course.
